April Open House

April Open House is this Saturday, April 9th, 10am – 4pm.  $5 per person, or $10 for a family up to four.

I believe the USS Missouri model will be on display on the Brickmania, along with a couple of their other traveling displays.  We’ll have trains running, our new layout is slowly being built, and as always if you bring your LEGO train to one of our Open Houses we’ll pull one of our trains off the track and let you run yours.

March Open House

Oh, hey – tomorrow is the Second Saturday in March!  That means we’re having another Brickmania Open House, 10am – 4pm.  $5 per person, or $10 for a group / family up to four people.

Most of the Brickmania crew is in Indianapolis this weekend, along with the USS Nicholas and USS Missouri models, but the Toyworks will be open, the play areas are ready, and we’ll have trains running all day.  Weather forecast is for just beautiful, so get out, enjoy the weather, and hopefully stop in and see us!

And have you ‘Liked’ us on Facebook, yet?

February Open House

Wait, February?  What happened to January?  Well, turns out we’re lousy at promoting ourselves, and I just forgot to post.  So, I’m posting for February.

February!  Open House!  Saturday, the 13th.  Valentine’s Day weekend for those of you who worry about that.  Me?  I’ll be hanging out at Brickmania from 10am – 4pm, running trains and answering questions, and maybe doing some building?  Layout #5 is slowly advancing, we’re adding lights and more details.  Still a long ways to go, but things are happening.

Come on out and see us!  If you bring your LEGO train, you can run it on one of our layouts.

November Open House

November Open House is this Saturday, November 14th, 10am – 4pm.  Brickmania Toyworks, on 18th Ave just west of Central Ave in beautiful Nordeast Minneapolis.

Plans are to have the three biggest ships in the Brickmania fleet be on display Saturday:  The LST 325, the USS Nicholas, and the world famous USS Missouri.  This might be the first time all three have been set up at a single Open House.

The GMLTC is still working on layout #5, it’s getting taller and we’re building the transitions between the taller sections and the shorter sections.  No idea when we’ll start tearing down the rest of layout #4, that probably starts in early 2016.

Come out and see us on Saturday!  And as always, if you bring your LEGO train you can run it on one of our layouts.

Second Saturday of the month Open Houses

Due to popular demand, the good people at Brickmania have decided to start having Open Houses again.  Same as before, second Saturday of each month, 10am – 4pm.

First one will be August 8th!  The current plan is to have Dan’s new USS Missouri on display in the big room, after it makes a trip to Hartford, CT and Evansville, IN.

Note:  There will be an admission fee for the Open Houses.  Brickmania needs to pay their employees to work on Saturday, and there are costs involved with running each Open House.  (We don’t have information on what the costs will be, stay tuned and we’ll pass on any info we get.)

Those of us in the train room are really looking forward to seeing everyone again.  And bring your guest trains!

World War Brick Minneapolis

World War Brick Minneapolis is almost upon us.

Brickmania’s very own Lego® convention for military enthusiasts is this weekend, and we’ll have the Train Room open during the public events on Saturday and Sunday. This is an opportunity to see not just our trains in action, but also the many special military-themed creations of many dozens of other hobbyists.

Information on the event, including ticket prices and how to order advance tickets, can be found at Brickmania’s World War Brick Minneapolis website. Note: Weekend passes are more expensive but include all events of the convention. Public Day passes for Saturday or Sunday are cheaper and are what most GMLTC fans may be looking for.

The 12-table version of GMLTC Layout #4 is still going strong and is ready to run guest trains. Layout #5 is slowly growing and is also available to accommodate guest trains. Jesse’s superhero city is still up, and we have a few new surprises.

This might be your last chance to see us for a few months. Hope to see you this weekend!

Art-a-Whirl is coming

Art-a-Whirl is this weekend!

Friday, May 17: 5 pm – 10 pm

Saturday, May 18: 12 pm – 8 pm

Sunday, May 19: 12 pm – 5 pm

Brickmania will be hosting several artists and Pizza Luce will be serving on the premises, all in an area open freely to the public. GMLTC will also have a small shop set up in that area, where we’ll be selling minifigures, train ornaments, and a few old sets.

New this year: Paid admission to the remainder of the Brickmania space will get you access to the new military models and displays, a giant K’nex ball contraption (stretching the length of the big room – even bigger than it was in January), as well as the Train Room. (Friday night’s admission will raise funds for a local food shelf.)

In the Train Room, we will have Steve’s Target Field Platform display and our familiar 12-table GMLTC Train Layout #4 (with trains running), but we also have several new displays up. One leg of the new X-shaped GMLTC Train Layout #5 is partially built and will also be running trains. Jesse has built some classic superhero/comic book-inspired buildings (which may eventually find their way onto another leg of Train Layout #5) and we’ll also be displaying the working miniature GMLTC Train Layout built by Roger and Jesse for a recent building competition at the Science Museum of Minnesota.

As always, guest trains are very welcome! We should have room on both GMLTC Train Layouts to run guest trains this weekend – just ask one of us for assistance.

Our friends at TCLTC may have also been making some sneaky improvements to their train layout in the past few months, so we’re curious to see the changes too.

More information on admission and what’s going on at Brickmania and can be found at http://brickmaniatoys.com/art-a-whirl/.

National Train Day – May 9

National Train Day is this Saturday, May 9!

While we’re not quite ready to open up our Train Room to the public (see us at Art-a-Whirl the following weekend), we will be celebrating National Train Day at a few locations around the Twin Cities.

The small 1950’s era Lego® train layout that we displayed at the Weisman Museum last fall now resides at the Minnesota Transportation Museum/Jackson Street Roundhouse in St. Paul, MN. Roger will be on hand at the Jackson Street Roundhouse this Saturday to run the layout and answer your questions, as part of the MTM’s National Train Day events.

Meanwhile, the newly renovated Union Depot in St. Paul, MN is also hosting special events on National Train Day from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. Steve and Jesse will be at Union Depot with custom Lego® train models, including the Blue Line and Northstar Rail trains, Target Field light rail platform, and some other surprises.

Visitors to our National Train Day events will also get first crack at our brand new club business cards, fresh from the printers.
