Greetings from the GMLTC! It’s been a while since we posted, we’ve been busy building and working on our layout.
November 10th & 11th is Brick Fest Live at St. Paul RiverCenter. Club members Jesse and Roger will have models on display, along with many other brick-related fun and games.
On the train layout front, now is a great time to visit the Twin Cities Model Railroad Museum! November through February they’re running their very popular Night Trains, Saturday nights from 6pm – 9pm. The room lights are turned off, blue lights simulate moonlight, and the layouts are lit. Their famous O-Scale layout looks so nice with the lights down low.
We’ve been inspired to add more lights to our layout, too.
Monday 10am to 3pm
Tuesday 10am to 3pm
Friday 10am to 3pm
Saturday 10am to 5pm, then Night Trains from 6pm to 9pm. (Night Trains is a separate admission.)
Sunday 12pm to 5pm
We try to have GMLTC club members there on Saturdays & Sundays, and some Fridays. Come out and visit us soon!
We’re very pleased to announce we have our LEGO train layout set up at the Twin Cities Model Railroad Museum in St. Paul. We’re excited to be working with them, they have such extensive knowledge of trains and model railroading, so we’re hoping to learn a lot.
Their location is just off University Ave and Transfer Road, near the old Amtrak depot. Take I-94 to the Cretin/Vandalia exit, go north on Vandalia to University, then right one stoplight to Transfer Road. Left on Transfer Road, the museum is on the right.
If you’re into trains and/or model railroading, this is a place you need to visit!
We hope to have club members there on Saturdays and Sundays to answer questions. And if you bring your guest train while we’re there, you can run it on our layout.
A big “Thank You” to our friends at Brickmania for hosting us the last several years. You’ve pushed us to be better than we were before, and we’re looking forward to building with you again in the future.
It’s been a long time since you may have been able to see us in a public venue, and given some of the changes that may be lying ahead, it may be some time again. Here’s your chance to see us in action again.
Brickmania Toyworks is putting on a Lego Fan Expo for the holidays! We’ve been continuing to build out Train Layout #5 and have also been hard at work on other special treats. Our friends from TCLTC and TwinLUG also have a bunch of new things to share. And, of course, our friends at Brickmania have also been hard at work, putting together new sets, new displays, and a new holiday experience all about the brick!
Tickets are on sale now at http://www.brickmania.com/toyworks/
Hope to see you there!
Long overdue, but here’s a quick summary of the history of our club and what we’re all about: GMLTC History
Brickmania will not be open, but there are hundreds of gallery spaces open all throughout Nordeast. It’s the best weekend of the year!
The GMLTC will have a very small display in the Northrup King building, #402a. Some friends are doing a ‘circus theme’ in their space, so we’ll have Roger’s circus tent set up to tag along with their theme. Hopefully we’ll see some of you there!
Our next open houses at Brickmania will be in December, we’ll try to keep everyone informed so you’ll know when to come visit.
Reminder that we’re having our last Open House for 2016 on Saturday, December 31st, 10am – 4pm.
After this Open House, we’re going to tear down layout #4, wash & sort the pieces, and continue work on layout #5 (and maybe layout 5.1?) So this will be your last chance ever to see layout #4, as we started building it in January of 2001 and we’re ready to work on a whole new layout.
Also this is our last Open House until December of 2017. Brickmania needs more office space as their business continues to grow, so the train clubs are moving out of the smaller room and into the bigger room. As part of that move, the monthly Open Houses will go on hiatus until next December.
Bring your Lego trains and run them on our layouts, as we want to see your trains!
November Open House is this Saturday, the 12th, 10am – 4pm. Weather forecast is for lovely September weather, so we’re hoping for a nice turnout.
In December, Brickmania will being doing an Open House four Saturdays – the 3rd, the 10th, the 17th, and the 31st; 10am to 4pm each day. (We’ll be closed on Christmas Eve.)
Then in 2017, some big changes at the Toyworks. Brickmania the company keeps growing, and needs more office space for employees. So the train clubs are moving out of the smaller room back into the bigger room, to make room for several more desks and workstations. This means no more regularly scheduled Open Houses. We’re tentatively thinking of a smaller, simpler Art-A-Whirl weekend, and then some fancier and more organized Open Houses a year from now in December of 2017.
So if you want to see the layouts, see them before the end of 2016 because that will be your last chance for a while. And, layout #4 will be dismantled in 2017, so we can devote all our efforts to layout #5. There is a possibility we might do a model train show or two in 2017, if we have something good to display. We’ll let you know!
As always, thanks for your support and interest, and if you bring your Lego train to one of our Open Houses you can run it on our layout(s)!
It’s October! (And I’m actually getting an Open House notice out more than two days before the date!)
Open House this Saturday, October 8th, 10am to 4pm. $5 per person, or $10 for a group or family up to four people.
Brickmania will have the incredible USS Missouri WWII battleship on display, if you haven’t seen it in person it’s worth the price of admission all by itself.
Brickmania head honcho Dan Siskind will be there, with a Q&A session. Ask him how he comes up with so many incredible models, because honestly we’d all like to know.
And as always, if you bring your LEGO train you can run it on one of our layouts!
Kids are back in school, the State Fair is already over, Vikings season starts in a couple days, is it really September already?
I guess that means one thing: the September Open House! Saturday, September 10th, 10am – 4pm at Brickmania Toyworks. Trains will be running, displays will be displayed, shoppers will be shopping. $5 per person, or $10 for a group or family up to four people.
And if you bring your Lego train, you can run it on one of our layouts!
Second Saturday Open House is August 13th, 10am – 4pm. $5 per person, or $10 for a group or family up to four people.
(And J-1 is hoping to have his voice back after being at Brickfair Virginia last weekend.)
Bring a Lego train, and you can run it on either of our layouts. We love “guest trains”, they’re the best part of each Open House.
Hope to see you there, weather forecast for Saturday is sunny & nice, come out and enjoy Brickmania, and Nordeast!
